In a significant show of commitment to the welfare of police officers and their families, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has presented Group Life Assurance and Family Welfare Insurance cheques to the next of kin of 1,235 fallen police officers. The presentation ceremony took place today at the IGP Smart Conference Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
According to a press release by the force Public Relations officer FPRO ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi in Abuja said, the event drew attendance from senior police officers, members of the Force Management Team, insurance industry stakeholders, and families of the deceased officers.
The IGP, in his remarks, reiterated the unwavering dedication of the Nigeria Police Force to honouring the sacrifices of its fallen personnel. “The Nigeria Police Force is built on the pillars of service, integrity, and sacrifice,” Egbetokun stated, emphasising that while no compensation can fully replace the loss of life, the Force remains committed to supporting the families left behind.
This disbursement marks the tenth phase of the insurance benefit payments, clearing long-standing arrears from the 2018/2019, 2021/2022, 2022/2023, and 2023/2024 policy years. With today’s payment of N2,855,181,796.55, the total amount disbursed by the Nigeria Police under the current initiative now stands at N22,978,602,488.25, benefitting a total of 8,311 families.
The IGP also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his steadfast support in enhancing police welfare and reiterated the Force’s vision of a future where no next of kin of a fallen officer is left uncertain or unsupported.
The IGP affirmed that the police leadership remains resolute in its commitment to institutionalising responsive welfare policies for both serving and retired officers, as well as their families.
