The newly elected National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared that the ruling party remains open to receiving more members across the country.
Yilwatda made this known while addressing journalists on Thursday at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, shortly after presiding over his first National Working Committee (NWC) meeting as party National Chairman.
According to him, the achievements of the APC-led government under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda have continued to attract new members into the party.
“The vehicle has been loaded, more people are coming in. Our doors are still open. We are open to accepting more people in the party,” he said.
The former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs likened the APC to a political vehicle driven and maintained by experienced party members across all levels of leadership.
In his words, “Almost everybody in the party — from the president, the vice president, National Assembly, to all the members of the National Working Committee and the governors — are all political mechanics. Political mechanics that can fix the vehicle, that can fuel the vehicle, that can drive the vehicle. They are both drivers and mechanics. We’ll fix this vehicle, we’ll drive this vehicle, we’ll move to the destination of the choice of Nigerians. And that’s what we want to do for this country.”
Yilwatda also said the party’s progressive nature is one of the reasons why it remains attractive to stakeholders at all levels of government.
“We are progressive in nature — from the president, to the vice president, to the National Assembly — and that’s the reason why the progressive attitude of the leadership of this party has made most governors, most senators, and most people decide to see APC as the best option for this nation. Our doors are still open”, he said.
The newly elected National Chairman pledged to use his position as chairman to ensure effective coordination of the party’s political strategies to deliver good governance and electoral success.
“My job, as chairman, is to coordinate the will and machinery of the party for success, good governance.First, good governance, success at the polls, and also improving the livelihood of Nigerians. I must say that I want to thank you for supporting us, for standing by us”, he added.
