IGP Decorates Top Police Officers, Hosts PENCOM on Retirement Benefits Reform

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has honoured two distinguished officers with new ranks following their exceptional service to the Nigeria Police Force. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Aliyu Shaba and Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Sentome Obi  winners of the Police Officer of the Year awards for 2023 and 2024 respectively  were decorated in a ceremony held at the IGP Smart Conference Room, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The recognition underscores the Police Force’s ongoing commitment to rewarding professionalism, discipline, and excellence within its ranks. While addressing officers at the event, the IGP reiterated that winners of the Police Officer of the Year award, recipients of the IGP Commendation Award, and officers who have secured category awards for two consecutive years will be recommended for accelerated promotion by the Police Service Commission.

“The doors of honour and recognition remain wide open to all officers, but such honours must be earned through consistent hard work, integrity, and professionalism,” IGP Egbetokun stated.

In a related development, the IGP also hosted a high-level delegation from the National Pension Commission (PenCom), led by its Director-General, Ms Omolola B. Oluworaran, along with the Managing Director of NPF Pensions Limited, Mr Kolade Morakinyo. The session was held to deliberate on strategies for improving retirement benefits for police personnel.

The interactive meeting, which lasted several hours, drew participation from senior officers from the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police and above. It addressed pressing concerns surrounding the welfare of both serving and retired officers.

The IGP expressed optimism that ongoing reforms and engagements with stakeholders like PenCom would soon translate into tangible improvements in the post-service lives of retired police officers. He also reaffirmed the Force’s unwavering commitment to better welfare packages and a future-focused, people-friendly policing system.

“The goal is to build a professionally competent and service-driven Force that remains compliant with the rule of law and responsive to the needs of our society,” Egbetokun added.
