The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a strong warning to officers and members of the public over rising attempts to lobby for special promotions, following misleading reports circulated by some online platforms.
In a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the NPF expressed concern over the increasing wave of unofficial requests and lobbying directed at the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Service Commission by certain officers.
According to the statement, the surge in lobbying efforts was triggered by misinformation surrounding the recent accelerated promotions awarded to a select group of officers. The NPF clarified that the promotions were based strictly on merit, professional excellence, and exceptional service—not on favouritism or political influence.
“These accelerated promotions were part of a structured reward system developed by the police leadership to recognize officers who have demonstrated uncommon bravery, dedication to duty, and professional excellence,” Adejobi stated.
The Force emphasized that the recent promotion exercise should not be misconstrued as a blanket or indiscriminate promotion scheme. Rather, it was a recognition of verifiable performance in line with the established guidelines.
Reacting to false reports allegedly published by a particular online platform, the NPF cautioned the public to disregard claims suggesting the Force had initiated arbitrary or politically motivated promotions. Describing the reports as baseless and misleading, the Force reiterated its unwavering commitment to transparency, fairness, and merit in all personnel decisions.
Officers have also been sternly warned against lobbying or using unofficial channels to influence the promotion process, as such actions are unethical and contrary to the values of professionalism upheld by the Force.
“Any officer found attempting to manipulate or bypass the promotion process will face severe disciplinary action in line with existing laws and service regulations,” the statement read.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to a promotion system anchored on integrity and honourable service, urging all officers to remain disciplined and committed to their constitutional responsibilities.
