The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has placed the results of 6,458 candidates in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) under investigation for alleged involvement in technology-driven examination malpractice.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this on Monday in Abuja while inaugurating a 23-member Special Committee on Examination Infraction.
He expressed concern over the rising sophistication of exam malpractice, noting that cheating has moved far beyond conventional methods to include advanced identity manipulation.
According to him, most of the cases under probe involve biometric and identity fraud allegedly perpetrated by some accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres in collusion with candidates.
The committee, chaired by Dr. Jake Epele, is expected to scrutinize the cases and recommend appropriate actions. Dr. Epele assured that the panel would discharge its duties with fairness, transparency, and integrity.
The special committee is made up of university professors, security agencies, representatives from Microsoft Africa, civil society groups, and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), among others.
