The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has rounded off a three-day operational visit to formations under 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), commissioning a series of landmark projects across Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom States.
A statement issued on Wednesday by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Appolonia Anele, revealed that the projects were initiated and executed by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, alongside other subordinate commanders.
While in Port Harcourt Barracks, General Oluyede commissioned the Headquarters 6 Division Office Complex Extension and the Python Harmony Centre. He also unveiled projects undertaken by the 6 Division Garrison under Brigadier General S. Ahmed, including two newly constructed 10-family Corporal and Below Quarters (CBQs), remodeled CBQs, a remodeled Cantonment Office, and a Petroleum Oil Lubricant Point. At 29 Battalion, he commissioned the remodeled Quarter Guard and additional CBQs.
In Bayelsa State, the Army Chief commissioned the new 16 Brigade Annex Complex built under the leadership of Brigadier General Oluremi Obolo, as well as an electrification project undertaken by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). Other projects included a Garrison House constructed by Lt. Col. Sheriff Kaigama, the remodeled 5 Battalion Quarter Guard, the renovated 343 Artillery Regiment CO’s House, a newly installed transformer, and the groundbreaking for 20 units of two-bedroom flats for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers at Elele Barracks.
The COAS also inspected the renovated Medical Reception Station at Wellington Barracks, Ibagwa Barracks, Akwa Ibom State.
As part of his leadership engagement, General Oluyede paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, at Government House, Uyo. He commended the state government for its strong support to the Nigerian Army, describing Akwa Ibom as one of the most peaceful states in the country due to the synergy with security agencies.
Governor Eno, in his remarks, praised the Nigerian Army for its contributions to peace, security, and development, and pledged continued collaboration through 2 Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Alex Tawasimi.
The Army Chief also addressed troops at 29 Battalion Parade Ground in Port Harcourt and 6 Battalion Parade Ground in Abak, Akwa Ibom State. He commended their resilience in anti-oil theft and pipeline protection operations, assuring them that their welfare remains a top priority under his “soldier-first” initiative.
