Discipline, Professionalism, Excellence Must Remain Your Watchwords – AWCN Commandant Tells Departing Officers

The Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) on Wednesday held a send-off ceremony in honour of senior officers and soldiers recently posted out of the institution.

The colourful event, which took place at the College Lounge, Asokoro, Abuja, was attended by the Commandant, Major General Umar Mohammed Alkali, alongside the Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies, directors, faculty members, and staff of the College.

Among those honoured were Brigadier General N.E. Okolaogu, former Director of Higher Military Studies and Interagency Relations; Colonel M.S. Bappaiya, former Director of Curriculum Development; Major A.A. Ogbu, College Quartermaster; and Captain O. Ogunrinde, ICT Officer. Others included Corporal Agagwu Uche and Lance Corporal Iriyomi Odewole.

In his remarks, the Commandant commended the outgoing personnel for their dedication and invaluable contributions to the College. He urged them to continue upholding the values of AWCN wherever they are deployed.

“Wherever you find yourselves, always exemplify what the College stands for — discipline, professionalism, and excellence,” Maj.-Gen. Alkali charged.

Brig.-Gen. Okolaogu has been appointed Commander, 2 Brigade Nigerian Army, while Col. Bappaiya moves to 1 Division as Acting Director, Education Services, among other new postings.

Highlights of the ceremony included goodwill messages, presentations of gifts, and words of encouragement to the departing officers. Brig.-Gen. Okolaogu, speaking on behalf of the honourees, expressed gratitude to the Commandant, faculty, and staff for their support, describing his time at the College as memorable and rewarding.

The event was rounded off with a group photograph and light refreshments, marking yet another tradition of honour, service, and camaraderie at the Army War College Nigeria.
