The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has assured the people of Katsina State that the Nigerian Army will step up its operations to further strengthen security in the state and across the country.
General Oluyede gave the assurance on Wednesday during a condolence visit to the Acting Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Faruk Lawal Jobe, at the Government House, Katsina, following recent banditry attacks that claimed lives and destroyed property.
In a statement issued by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, the COAS emphasized that immediate measures were being put in place to forestall a recurrence of such attacks. He appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies in the collective effort to defeat banditry and restore peace in the state.
Responding, Acting Governor Jobe commended the COAS for his visit and assured of the government’s continuous support to the Nigerian Army and other security agencies. He highlighted the state government’s significant investment in the security sector, pledging to sustain such efforts until criminality is stamped out. The governor also lauded the Army’s prompt response to distress calls and expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his steadfast commitment to the security of Katsina and Nigeria at large.
As part of his operational tour of the state under 8 Division/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, General Oluyede received a detailed briefing from the Commander 17 Brigade, Brigadier General B.O. Omopariola, at Natsinta Barracks. The briefing covered operational activities, challenges, and strategies aimed at consolidating security in the state.
The COAS commended the troops for their dedication and assured them of enhanced logistics support to enable seamless operations. He urged them to make further sacrifices in securing the state and the nation.
Continuing his three-day operational tour, General Oluyede visited troops at the Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in Federal University Dutsinma, Safana, and Malumfashi. At each location, he charged the soldiers to intensify operations, deny bandits freedom of action, and decisively confront all criminal elements within their areas of responsibility.
The Army Chief reiterated his commitment to improved troop welfare, logistical support, and the provision of operational platforms, stressing that these would strengthen the fight against insecurity and ensure peace for the people of Katsina State.
