Troops of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP) have foiled a planned attack by armed militias in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation, carried out on Thursday, 4 September 2025, followed a distress call on the movement of suspected attackers mobilised to invade communities in Fann District. Acting swiftly, the troops laid an ambush at Kaskra in Ropp District, where they intercepted and arrested one armed suspect.
According to a statement by the Media Information Officer of Operation Enduring Peace, Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, the suspect was found in possession of one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 11 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested militia had been mobilised from a nearby community to launch coordinated attacks on Nding Village in Barkin Ladi. The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation to provide intelligence that could aid ongoing operations.
Major Zhakom added that troops are continuing operations to track down other members of the militia and recover more weapons. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Joint Task Force to maintaining peace and security across the Joint Operations Area.
