The Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP) has launched a tree planting campaign and distributed relief materials and wheelchairs to support vulnerable groups in Plateau State as part of its non-kinetic approach to peacebuilding.
The event, held on Saturday, 6 September 2025, at Government College Jos, was organized by Sector 1 JTF OPEP and attended by top military, government, and community leaders.
In his remarks, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander JTF OPEP, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, said the initiative underscores the military’s commitment to not only safeguarding lives and property but also enhancing community welfare.
He explained that the tree planting campaign is a deliberate effort to combat deforestation, promote healthy living, and win the trust of host communities. “This exercise is part of our renewed determination to use every legitimate means—kinetic and non-kinetic—to restore peace and stability across the Joint Operations Area,” General Oyinlola stated.
Earlier, Commander Sector 1 JTF OPEP, Navy Captain M.A. Fana, noted that the campaign was motivated by environmental concerns, adding that tree planting would help restore the state’s natural beauty while strengthening civil-military relations.
The Plateau State Commissioner for Education, Dr. (Mrs.) Kachollom Pyam, who gave the vote of thanks, commended JTF OPEP for the initiative and assured that the state would sustain tree planting traditions in schools.
The event featured the planting of trees, donation of wheelchairs to physically challenged students, and provision of relief materials to an orphanage home. It was graced by state commissioners, security chiefs, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders.
