COAS Visits Troops in Ogoja, Commends Commitment to National Security

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has praised officers and soldiers of the 130 Battalion and 341 Artillery Regiment in Ogoja, Cross River State, for their resilience and dedication to safeguarding Nigeria’s security.

General Oluyede gave the commendation on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, during an operational visit to Godwin Ally Barracks, Ogoja, as part of his assessment tour of formations and units under the 82 Division Area of Responsibility.

According to a statement signed by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Appolonia  Anele noted that during the visit, the Army Chief inspected key facilities, interacted with personnel, and expressed appreciation for their sacrifices despite daunting operational challenges. He also reassured the troops of the Army’s commitment to improving their welfare and working conditions.

Oluyede disclosed that significant resources are being invested to revamp schools within barracks to ensure soldiers’ children receive quality education. He further directed the immediate renovation of dilapidated accommodations to enhance the living standards of troops and their families.

Highlighting recent welfare initiatives, the COAS noted that the increase in Ration Cash Allowance has enabled commanders to provide better feeding for soldiers. He urged troops to reciprocate by remaining disciplined, professional, and committed to their duties.

The Army Chief also revealed ongoing efforts to provide all personnel with new uniforms and essential military kits, describing the initiative as part of deliberate measures to boost morale, standardize operational readiness, and reinforce his “Soldiers First” vision.

He further tasked troops to sustain synergy with other security agencies and host communities, emphasizing that collaboration remains vital to achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
