Nigeria Customs Service Updates Public on Ongoing Recruitment Exercise

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has provided fresh updates on its ongoing recruitment exercise, which began with an official advertisement published in national newspapers on December 27, 2024.

According to a statement signed by the National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller of Customs, Abdullahi Maiwada, PhD, a total of 3,927 vacancies were declared across the Superintendent, Inspectorate, and Customs Assistant cadres.

The Service disclosed that it received 573,523 applications during the first phase. Following a thorough documentation review, 286,697 candidates were shortlisted to proceed to the next stage.

The second phase, which will run from September 14 to 21, 2025, will be conducted through an online Computer-Based Test (CBT). The Service emphasized that the process is designed to ensure transparency, accessibility, and fairness.

Candidates are required to write the CBT at any location with reliable internet connectivity but must use a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam and full-screen display, as the platform is not mobile-enabled. A facial verification process will be carried out during login, with candidates advised to maintain a neat appearance to avoid recognition issues.

The Service further warned that the CBT application is sensitive to noise, movement, and window-switching. Candidates who engage in distractions, whispering, or attempt to navigate away from the exam page risk being automatically logged out or disqualified for malpractice.

To help applicants prepare, the NCS has scheduled a mandatory pre-test session two days before the CBT. Two separate links will be sent to shortlisted candidates—one for the pre-test and another for the main examination. The Service also clarified that applicants for the Superintendent Cadre (Level 8) will undergo an additional CBT in the next phase of the recruitment, while this does not apply to other cadres.

Reassuring applicants of a fair process, the Customs Service stressed that the recruitment remains strictly merit-based and transparent, with successful candidates to be notified of subsequent stages through official communication channels.

The statement cautioned applicants against engaging with unverified sources, noting that the NCS does not charge fees or conduct recruitment through social media platforms.
