The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed an ordnance explosion at the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) facility in Kaduna on Saturday
According to a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the incident occurred in the morning while specialists were disposing of expired materials, including ammonia nitrates, primer caps, propellants, and other hazardous substances.
The explosion tragically claimed one life and left several others injured. The injured personnel are currently receiving treatment at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has extended his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, while also wishing those injured a speedy recovery.
DHQ assured the public that the situation is under control, adding that there is no threat to the surrounding community. The statement further emphasized that DICON continues to uphold strict operational safety standards and that a thorough investigation will be conducted to prevent future occurrences.
