The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of six suspects in connection with the deadly attack on police tactical teams in Katsina-Ala/Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
The attack, carried out by suspected armed herdsmen and local militias at Agu Centre on Friday, 19 September 2025, left three officers dead, while seven others remain missing.
In a statement on Sunday, Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the Commissioner of Police in Benue, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, is personally leading the ongoing operation to rescue the missing officers and track down the perpetrators.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, condemned the incident in strong terms, describing it as “cruel, unwarranted, and an affront on the good people of Benue State.”
According to Hundeyin, the arrested suspects are in custody and providing useful information to aid the investigation. He added that the IGP has deployed additional tactical assets to the affected area to speed up the rescue mission and ensure the immediate arrest of fleeing suspects.
The Force reassured residents of its commitment to restoring peace in the state while urging the public to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies.
Efforts are ongoing to dismantle the criminal networks behind the attack and bring all responsible to justice.
