

The Senegalese Minister of Defence, General Birame Diop (rtd), has praised the performance of the ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau (ESSMGB) during a courtesy visit to the mission’s Force Headquarters in Bissau on Thursday, 19 September 2025.
According to a statement by the Mission Public Information Officer, ECOWAS Stabilization Support Mission in Guinea Bissau, Maj. Yahaya Nasir Kabara said General Diop, who was accompanied by Guinea-Bissau’s Defence Minister, Dionysio Cabi, and Senegal’s Ambassador to the country, Ambassador Musa, was received by the Force Commander, Brigadier General Edward Odinya Ojabo, alongside senior officers and contingent commanders.
The statement added that after receiving a comprehensive briefing on the mission’s operations, achievements, and challenges, the Senegalese minister commended the Force Commander and described the presentation as “very detailed and enlightening.” He congratulated the troops for the successes recorded so far and urged them to sustain the momentum.
Diop encouraged the mission to continue fostering teamwork, unity, and mutual respect, noting that diversity should be seen as a source of strength. He also charged the Force to maintain discipline, show tolerance, and uphold professionalism in all engagements.
The Defence Minister stressed the need for close cooperation with Guinea-Bissau’s authorities and local security agencies while remaining sensitive to the plight of citizens. He reminded the troops of the hardships the people have endured in the past and urged them to avoid any actions that could worsen their suffering.
He further underscored the importance of safeguarding the image and reputation of ECOWAS and the contributing member states through exemplary conduct.
