8 Division Nigerian Army, UNICEF Strengthen Partnership to Protect Children, Boost Emergency Response

The 8 Division of the Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to safeguard children and enhance humanitarian emergency response in the North West.

This pledge was made when the UNICEF Nigeria Country Representative, Mr. Charles Lolika, paid a courtesy visit to the Division’s headquarters.

Representing the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander, Sector 2 Joint Task Force, Operation Fasin Yamma, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, the Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Abubakar Suru, restated the Division’s unwavering support for UNICEF’s life-saving initiatives.

“We recognize the critical role UNICEF plays in protecting vulnerable children and responding to emergencies. The Division is fully committed to ensuring the safety and security of UNICEF personnel while facilitating the effective implementation of their programmes in our area of responsibility,” he said.

In his remarks, Mr. Lolika commended the Nigerian Army for its continued collaboration, describing the support as vital to UNICEF’s mission.

“The Nigerian Army’s support is instrumental in enabling UNICEF to reach children in need. This visit provides an opportunity to strengthen our partnership, ensuring we have the access and backing required to tackle urgent issues such as malnutrition and deliver timely, coordinated emergency assistance,” he stated.

Mr. Lolika further revealed that the renewed partnership will focus on strengthening data collection for better interventions, providing safe environments for UNICEF staff, and addressing the pressing needs of children affected by conflict and crises.

The visit, according to both parties, underscores a shared commitment to improving child welfare and building a brighter future for Nigeria’s children.
