The President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs. Oghogho Musa, has commissioned a newly constructed 38-bed maternity centre at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Hospital, Afaka, Kaduna State.
The centre, which was officially inaugurated on Thursday, 25 September 2025, was built, furnished, and donated by members of the NDA 38 Regular Course (RC) Association, whose patron is the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa. Mrs. Musa, who performed the groundbreaking ceremony in January 2025, returned as Special Guest of Honour for the commissioning.
The maternity facility is designed to strengthen healthcare services within the NDA and surrounding communities. It will provide childbirth, antenatal, postnatal, and family planning services.
Chairman of the project committee, Rear Admiral Murtala Bashir (rtd), expressed gratitude to General Musa, members of the RC 38 Association, the Service Chiefs, and the NDA Commandant for their support. He noted that the centre is equipped with consulting rooms, an operating theatre, and other modern facilities. He also encouraged the wives of RC 38 members, known as the “Unique 38 Ladies,” to continue supporting the centre.
According to Brig. Gen.Tukur Gusau, Director, Defence Information in Abuja said that, the event featured the formal handover of the facility by President of the RC 38 Association, Major General Solomon Udounwa, to NDA Commandant, Major General Abdul Khalifah Ibrahim.
Dignitaries present included the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hadeja, who represented Vice President Kashim Shettima, representatives of the Service Chiefs, executives of DEPOWA, wives of RC 38 members, as well as serving and retired senior officers.
