Dr. Jeffery Kurauun, a governorship hopeful in the 2027 Benue State election, has called on indigenes of the state to rally behind initiatives that promote and preserve Tiv cultural heritage, regardless of political affiliations.
Speaking at the second edition of the Tiv Iyough ki Ayatutu 2025, New Yam Festival, Dr. Kurauun emphasized that the event was devoid of politics and should be embraced by all Tiv sons and daughters. He noted that just as other ethnic groups proudly celebrate their distinct cultural festivals, the Tiv people must also take pride in showcasing the new yam festival as a symbol of their identity.
The politician commended the organizers for sustaining the initiative, which he disclosed was originally conceived through the efforts of his wife. He also expressed gratitude for the honor accorded him as patron of the celebration, pledging his continued support for the cultural cause.
Dr. Kurauun further urged Benue stakeholders, both at home and in the diaspora, to key into the project, stressing that it remains a nonpartisan effort aimed at advancing Tiv culture and fostering unity among the people.
