Troops Neutralise Arms Courier, Recover AK-47 Rifles in Kwara

Troops of the Nigerian Army have intercepted and neutralised an arms courier in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, recovering a cache of rifles and magazines.

The operation was carried out by soldiers of the 22 Armoured Brigade, under Operation Park Strike V, during a snap check along the Share–Gbugbu Road on Thursday, 25 September 2025.

Acting on credible intelligence, the troops intercepted a Volkswagen Golf 3 with registration number Bayelsa SAG-133 XA. The driver attempted to escape but was gunned down. A search of the vehicle uncovered five AK-47 rifles and three magazines concealed in a charcoal sack.

According to a statement signed by Capt. Stephen Nwankwo, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, the courier had been tracked from Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State, before being intercepted around 8:30 a.m. in Edu LGA.

Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, praised the troops for their vigilance and professionalism, urging them to sustain the momentum. He reassured residents of Kwara and neighbouring states of continued security operations to safeguard lives and property, while calling on the public to support the military with timely and credible information.

The Army reiterated its commitment to defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and eliminating all forms of criminal activity.
