The Nigerian Army has announced the death of Lieutenant S. Haruna following an unfortunate domestic incident involving the officer and his wife, which occurred on 22 September 2025 in Akwa Ibom State.
According to a statement issued by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters 2 Brigade, Capt. Lawal Bala Muhammad, the officer sustained severe fire burns during the incident and was immediately evacuated to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) for intensive medical care.
Despite the best efforts of the medical team, Lt. Haruna succumbed to his injuries on 6 October 2025 while still receiving treatment.
“The Nigerian Army deeply commiserates with the family, colleagues, and friends of the deceased officer and prays for the repose of his soul,” the statement read.
Capt. Muhammad further disclosed that an investigation was launched immediately after the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding it. He assured that the findings would be made public upon the conclusion of the inquiry.
The Nigerian Army expressed appreciation to the general public for its understanding and support, reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, discipline, and accountability in the conduct of its personnel.
