

In commemoration of World Sight Day 2025, the Headquarters 8 Division, Nigerian Army, has organized a free comprehensive eye care outreach for its personnel and their families. The initiative, themed “Love Your Eyes: Access to Eye Care for All,” aims to raise awareness on eye health and ensure that members of the military community have access to quality vision care.
According to a statement by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, the two-day exercise scheduled to hold from 9th to 10th October 2025 at the Lieutenant General T.Y. Buratai Auditorium, Giginya Cantonment includes a wide range of services such as eye consultations, vision screening, distribution of eyeglasses, and provision of medications for various eye conditions.
The programme commenced with a health rally within the cantonment to sensitize residents on the importance of regular eye checkups and preventive eye care practices.
Speaking during the event, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FASAN YAMMA, Major General Ibikunle Ademola Ajose, represented by the Commander 8 Division Garrison, Brigadier General Abdulmalik Mohammed, commended the initiative and reaffirmed the Division’s commitment to the health and welfare of troops and their families.
He emphasized that access to quality eye care is vital for maintaining both operational readiness and overall well-being, urging all eligible individuals to take full advantage of the free services.
The 8 Division’s free eye care programme demonstrates the Nigerian Army’s ongoing dedication to the health, safety, and productivity of its personnel, while also contributing to the prevention of avoidable blindness within its ranks and communities.
