
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced significant operational achievements across various theatres of operations nationwide for the week ending 9 October 2025, as troops intensified efforts to tackle terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, oil theft, and other criminal activities.
According to a statement released by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), in collaboration with other security agencies, sustained momentum in both kinetic and non-kinetic operations aimed at enhancing national security, promoting stability, and safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity.
Major General Kangye stated that the operations were carried out with precision to minimize collateral damage and ensure the safety of civilians, in line with global operational standards. He noted that troops recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and other materials, while numerous terrorists and criminals were neutralized or arrested across different regions.
In the North East: Operation HADIN KAI
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI sustained aggressive operations against Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists across Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States. Between 3 – 8 October, forces conducted clearance operations in Bama, Damboa, Konduga, Gwoza, Ngala, and Kukawa LGAs, eliminating several terrorists, arresting nine others, and rescuing three kidnapped victims.
In related operations between 4 – 6 October, troops apprehended 12 terrorist collaborators, informants, and sympathizers in Chibok, Gubio, Mubi South, and Geidam LGAs. Recovered items included vehicles, logistics supplies, drugs, and petroleum products.
North West: Operation FANSAN YAMMA
In the North West, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA recorded major breakthroughs during offensive operations in Kaduna, Kebbi, Zamfara, Katsina, and Sokoto States. Several terrorists were neutralized, eight suspects arrested, and 33 kidnapped victims rescued.
Troops also recovered two brand-new motorcycles, mobile phones, and ₦3 million suspected to be ransom money intended for the release of abducted victims.
North Central: Operations ENDURING PEACE and WHIRL STROKE
Troops under Operation ENDURING PEACE conducted operations in Plateau and Kaduna States, where they killed several extremists, arrested seven suspects, and rescued two kidnapped victims. Weapons, vehicles, motorcycles, and ₦1.3 million in cash were recovered.
Similarly, troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE carried out operations in Taraba, Kogi, Benue, and Nasarawa States, neutralizing armed criminals, arresting three suspects, and rescuing two abducted individuals.
South-South: Operation DELTA SAFE
In the Niger Delta region, troops of Operation DELTA SAFE foiled illegal oil activities worth over ₦224 million. The breakdown includes 22,450 litres of stolen crude oil, 5,500 litres of diesel (AGO), and 150,000 litres of petrol (PMS).
Additionally, troops discovered and destroyed 21 illegal refining ovens, 9 dugout pits, 11 storage tanks, 7 boats, and other equipment used in crude oil theft. Eight suspects were arrested, while arms, ammunition, and other items were recovered.
Between 4 – 7 October, troops also arrested eight criminals and rescued one kidnapped victim in Rivers and Delta States.
South East: Operation UDO KA
In the South East, Operation UDO KA troops sustained pressure on IPOB/ESN terrorists in Imo, Abia, Anambra, and Enugu States. Between 3 – 8 October, troops neutralized a terrorist, arrested a wanted commander identified as Uche Okafor (alias Whipper), along with four others. Weapons, vehicles, and IEDs were recovered during the operations. Four additional criminals were apprehended in Ihiala and Enugu East LGAs.
Major General Markus Kangye praised the resilience and professionalism of Nigerian troops across all operational theatres.
He reiterated the military’s unwavering commitment to denying terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements freedom of action, assuring Nigerians of the Armed Forces’ determination to protect lives and maintain national stability.
“The success of ongoing operations is a testament to the determination and resilience of our troops who continue to work tirelessly to secure our nation,” Kangye stated.
He urged the media to continue supporting the Armed Forces by disseminating accurate information about ongoing operations to the general public.
