Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist attack in the Ngamdu general area, following a swift and decisive response by soldiers on ground and reinforcement elements from the 29 Task Force Brigade.
According to a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North East (Operation HADIN KAI), the terrorists launched a fierce assault using Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs), armed drones, and command-initiated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), targeting military positions and vehicles.
Despite the intensity of the attack, the troops stood their ground and responded with superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to retreat with heavy casualties. Credible intelligence sources indicate that the insurgents suffered significant losses, with reports of mass burials involving about 15 bodies around Bula Wura, near Wasaram.
Unfortunately, the Nigerian Army recorded four personnel killed in action (KIA) and five wounded in action (WIA). Some Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles and gun trucks also sustained varying degrees of damage during the encounter.
The terrorists reportedly attempted to prevent reinforcements and cause further harm by planting multiple IEDs along the Ngamdu–Damaturu Main Supply Route (MSR). This prompted a temporary closure of the route, as military engineers quickly cleared three IED-laden spots. The MSR has since been reopened for both military and civilian movement.
In the aftermath, troops were immediately resupplied with essential logistics — including MRAP tyres and ammunition — to sustain operations and restore full mobility. Meanwhile, the 29 Task Force Brigade has launched further fighting patrols and exploitation operations to deny the terrorists freedom of movement and consolidate recent gains.
Lt. Col. Uba commended the gallantry and resilience of the troops, assuring the public that normalcy has been restored and that ongoing operations will continue to ensure lasting peace and security in the area.
