The Nigerian Army (NA) has extended its community development efforts to Argungu in Kebbi State, commissioning a newly renovated block of classrooms and four boreholes to enhance education and access to clean water in the area.
The intervention, executed under the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Special Intervention Project, included the full renovation of a three-classroom block at Dankoji Nizamiyya Primary School along Kanta Road, Yardole, and the provision of boreholes across selected communities.
In a statement signed by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, the initiative reflects the Army’s growing commitment to social development alongside its traditional security responsibilities.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Emir of Argungu, His Royal Highness Alhaji Samaila Muhammad Mera, praised the Nigerian Army for its dedication to national development, describing education as a vital pillar of security and progress.
“Security is not confined to the battlefield; it encompasses the education, welfare, and overall progress of the communities we serve,” the Emir said.
The project facilitator, Major General Ismaila Babangida Abubakar, an indigene of Argungu, said the intervention was driven by a personal desire to contribute meaningfully to his community’s development. He urged community leaders, teachers, and residents to take ownership of the facilities and ensure their maintenance.
According to him, the project aligns with the COAS’s command philosophy of transforming the Nigerian Army into a well-motivated and community-oriented force capable of fulfilling its constitutional duties.
Earlier, the project supervisor, Mr. Magaji Lawal, revealed that the school had been in a state of disrepair before the intervention. He said the COAS approved full funding for the renovation upon recognizing the urgent need to restore the facility for effective teaching and learning.
The scope of work covered:
Complete remodeling and renovation of the three-classroom block
Repair of 46 classroom chairs and tables
Provision of four pairs of tables and chairs for teachers
