Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued two kidnapped victims and recovered ₦3.8 million ransom money during a counter-kidnapping operation in Kogi State.
The operation, carried out by soldiers of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Oguma, took place on November 2, 2025, following credible intelligence on the activities of kidnappers along the Itobe–Adumu–Ejule axis.
According to a statement by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, the troops received information that some relatives of kidnapped victims were preparing to deliver ransom payments to the abductors. Acting swiftly, the soldiers launched a patrol to Achigili Forest to intercept the criminals.
While en route, the troops reportedly came under attack from the kidnappers. The soldiers engaged them in a fierce gun battle, forcing the criminals to abandon their captives and the ransom money before fleeing into the forest with gunshot wounds.
“The troops rescued the victims and recovered the sum of ₦3,800,000, which was meant for ransom payment. The victims were immediately debriefed to support further operations, while the recovered cash was handed back to them,” the statement read.
The rescued individuals are said to be in safe custody at the troops’ location, pending their handover to relevant authorities.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the country and urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to help combat criminal elements in Kogi State and beyond.
