Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), under the Joint Task Force North East, have successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Kangar, Mallam Fatori, Borno State, in the early today
According to a statement signed by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force North East (Operation HADIN KAI, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, the assault, which began around 4:30 a.m, was launched by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists using armed drones and mortar fire aimed at the base’s defensive positions. Despite the intensity of the attack, the troops reinforced by the main battalion force under Sector 3 displayed exceptional bravery and tactical superiority, effectively thwarting the terrorists’ attempt.
According to him, the soldiers engaged the insurgents in a fierce gun battle, supported by close air support from Nigerien Fighter Ground Attack platforms. Overwhelmed by the superior firepower and coordination of the joint force, the terrorists retreated in disarray into the Tumbun waterways, reportedly evacuating several of their dead and wounded.
A post-battle mop-up confirmed the neutralization of six terrorists and the recovery of several weapons and equipment, including: five AK-47 rifles
Eight AK-47 magazines, 258 rounds of 7.62mm x 39 ammunition, Five RPG bombs, Four armed drone bombs, Five Type-36 hand grenades, Two bandoliers
One Android phone.
Follow-up air interdictions by the Nigerian and Nigerien Air Forces on the fleeing terrorists further neutralized additional scores of the insurgents.
He also said, a few personnel of the Joint Task Force and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) sustained minor injuries during the encounter, and have since been evacuated by the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) for medical attention and are reportedly in stable condition.
The MNJTF also provided Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) support, enhancing the troops’ situational awareness during the engagement. Exploitation operations are currently ongoing in the waterways and surrounding areas to track down the fleeing terrorists and deny them any safe haven.
The Military High Command commended the gallant troops for their courage, professionalism, and resilience, reaffirming the Armed Forces’ commitment to restoring peace and stability across the North East through sustained and coordinated operations.
