Mbah Hails Army’s Renewed Push for Security Under COAS Shaibu

Enugu State Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has praised the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for steering a renewed and vigorous push toward national security.

According to a statement by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Apollonia Anele, Governor Mbah gave the commendation on Thursday, when he received the Army Chief and senior officers at the Government House, Enugu. He said General Shaibu’s track record and early actions in office had demonstrated “seriousness, professionalism and commitment befitting the role.”
He also noted that Enugu was honoured to host the COAS and his team for the 2025 Regimental Sergeant Majors’ Convention.

Responding, General Shaibu thanked the governor and the people of Enugu State for their steady support to the Nigerian Army. He assured that the Army would remain proactive in addressing security threats and emphasized that stronger collaboration among security agencies and citizens would help defeat insecurity.

The COAS also visited troops of 82 Division and the Forward Operations Base in Ivo, Abia State, where he commended soldiers for their resilience and contributions to stabilizing the South East.He reaffirmed that troop welfare remains a top priority and promised action on accommodation challenges in Army barracks nationwide.

General Shaibu later attended the closing of the 2nd RSMs’ Convention, themed “RSM Roles in Operational Readiness and Combat Effectiveness.” Calling it a significant event and his first major engagement in office, he said the forum had provided valuable insights on discipline, leadership and regimentation across formations.

Chief of Administration (Army), Major General Isa Abdullahi, also lauded the RSMs for their dedication and said the convention had strengthened their leadership capacity.
