Operation Zafin Wuta: Troops Arrest Notorious Kidnap Suspect in Wukari, Intensify Efforts to Rescue Victim

Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested a notorious kidnap suspect identified as Umar Musa Geyi in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations for 6 Brigade, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the arrest was made on 22 November 2025 following credible intelligence on the suspect’s movements. Geyi, who had long been on the wanted list of security agencies, is believed to be a key member of a kidnapping syndicate responsible for several attacks and abductions in the area.

Preliminary investigations reveal that Geyi is linked to the kidnapping of Alhaji Jano, a Fulani resident abducted on 13 November 2025 in the Jandei-Kulala area. Troops reportedly intercepted the suspect during a phone call in which he confirmed that the victim was still being held and demanded ₦20 million ransom for his release.

The Army said the suspect is currently in custody and undergoing further interrogation, with the focus on identifying the exact location of the victim and facilitating his safe rescue.
The Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their swift and decisive action. He reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace across Taraba State.

General Uwa also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with timely and credible information to support ongoing operations.
