A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Benedict Alabi, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2026 governorship election in Osun State, unveiling a comprehensive agenda anchored on unity, inclusion, economic empowerment and people-focused governance.
Speaking to newsmen after submitting his nomination form, Alabi said his decision was driven not by personal ambition but by a deep commitment to the progress of Osun and the welfare of its people. He described leadership as an act of service rooted in compassion and integrity, stressing that public office must be pursued with a heart that listens and responds to the struggles of citizens.
He described his aspiration as a “sacred covenant” with the people of Osun, pledging to deploy his experience in both the public and private sectors to build a state that works for all. His vision, he said, rests on three pillars: unifying the state, expanding opportunities, and entrenching servant leadership.
On unity, Alabi noted that Osun needed a leader capable of healing divisions and rebuilding trust across communities and political lines. He promised to govern as a leader for every citizen, not for any faction or interest group.
He assured that his administration would be inclusive, competence-driven and responsive. Every community, he noted, would have a voice in governance through town hall meetings, consultations and participatory decision-making. For party loyalists, he pledged a structured empowerment programme to reward their contributions and ensure they benefit from government-initiated opportunities.
He also unveiled an economic blueprint titled A Chance For Everyone, aimed at unlocking the potential of youths, traders, farmers, market women, teachers and civil servants. He said Osun’s economic growth depends on fostering innovation, enabling business growth and ensuring that hard work leads to prosperity.
The governorship hopefull announced plans to establish an Osun Youth Innovation Fund to provide grants, vocational training and interest-free loans for young entrepreneurs. A voluntary public works brigade, he added, would support infrastructure projects while creating jobs.
On agriculture, Alabi proposed an Osun Agribusiness Transformation Programme to provide farmers with improved storage facilities, modern tools and better market access. He also promised a microcredit scheme to boost small-scale enterprises for market men and women.
Education and healthcare formed major parts of his policy direction. Alabi declared a state of emergency on education, promising teacher retraining, upgraded learning facilities and the deployment of technology in classrooms.
On healthcare, he pledged to revitalise and expand the Osun Health Insurance Scheme to cover elderly people, children and vulnerable groups.
He further announced an initiative tagged Operation Green Deep Osun, focused on completing abandoned projects and delivering new ones, particularly roads, potable water systems and alternative energy solutions.
On security, Alabi promised stronger support for security agencies and community-led initiatives targeting both the symptoms and root causes of crime. He also unveiled plans for an Osun Elderly Care Support Scheme to provide monthly stipends and healthcare assistance for senior citizens.
He vowed to run a transparent, accountable and accessible government, leveraging technology to ensure openness in public procurement and financial management.
