The Nigerian Army has recorded another milestone in its drive to enhance operational efficiency with the commissioning of a state-of-the-art Wargaming Centre at the Department of Land Warfare, Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji.

The facility was inaugurated on Saturday, 6 December 2025, according to a statement signed by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele.

Welcoming the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Nigerian Army Medal, the Commandant of AFCSC, Air Vice Marshal Hassan Idris Alhaji, reaffirmed the College’s commitment to producing officers who are intellectually equipped for command, instructional, and staff duties in complex security environments.

He noted that the new centre conceptualised under the leadership of the COAS will significantly enhance the capacity of personnel to develop modern operational concepts, refine strategic thinking, and improve combat decision-making processes.

The Commandant commended the Army Chief for his sustained investment on professional military education and pledged the College’s continued support in delivering world-class training.

In his remarks, Lieutenant General Shaibu underscored the strategic importance of AFCSC as a centre of excellence in grooming officers capable of confronting Nigeria’s evolving security challenges. He explained that the Wargaming Centre would serve as a critical asset for planning, rehearsing, and executing operations with greater precision.

The COAS emphasized that adopting advanced training technologies is vital for staying ahead of adversaries and enhancing the Army’s capability for effective deployment across all theatres of operation. He urged students of the College to maximize the facility, noting that modern military operations are increasingly fluid, unpredictable, and technology-driven.

Reiterating his vision to modernize all military training infrastructures to global standards, General Shaibu highlighted AFCSC’s reputation as an institution that attracts officers from around the world, making facilities like the Wargaming Centre indispensable.

He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his unwavering support to the Nigerian Army and for prioritizing national security.
