The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has announced the emergence of Bola Oyebamiji as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2026 Osun State election, describing the process as a reflection of unity and internal harmony within the party.
Yilwatda made the announcement on Tuesday during the presentation of the Certificate of Return to Oyebamiji, at the party secretariat in Abuja following consultations among nine aspirants who agreed to adopt a consensus approach.
“We have just produced a brand-new candidate for the Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 2026,” Yilwatda said. “What makes this unique is that it was achieved by consensus. All nine aspirants came together and agreed on one person to represent them.”
According to the APC chairman, the consensus arrangement demonstrated the level of trust, cooperation and understanding among party members, as well as confidence in Oyebamiji’s leadership capacity.
“This shows that our candidate has the ability to carry everyone along, not only during the campaign but also in governance,” he added.
Yilwatda confirmed that the issuance of the Certificate of Return formally recognised Oyebamiji as the APC’s sole candidate for the Osun governorship election slated for August 2026.
He assured residents of Osun State of the party’s full commitment to the election, pledging sustained mobilisation and support ahead of the poll.
“The party is ready to stand with the people of Osun from now until election day. We will deploy our full capacity and strength to ensure a convincing victory for the APC,” he said.
Responding after receiving his certificate, Oyebamiji expressed gratitude to the party leadership for the confidence reposed in him. “I thank the National Chairman and members of the National Working Committee for this opportunity,” he said. “I assure you that I will make you proud.”
Oyebamiji said the people of Osun were ready for a change in leadership, stressing that governance required seriousness and effective management of the state’s human and material resources.
“Osun State is blessed with enormous assets, and what we need is a serious manager to drive those assets ineffectively,” he stated.
He also emphasised unity within the party, noting that he did not view any member as a rival.
“We are a team, and we are committed to delivering together,” Oyebamiji said, adding that the mandate would be pursued with dedication in line with the party’s broader electoral goals ahead of 2026 and beyond.
