
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, has ordered a nationwide deployment of police personnel and operational assets to ensure a safe, peaceful and crime-free Christmas and New Year celebration across Nigeria.
According to a statement signed by the, Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin for the Inspector General of Police in Abuja noted that, the deployment is part of a proactive security strategy aimed at maintaining law and order during the festive season. Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and State Command Commissioners of Police (CPs) to intensify patrols, enhance visibility policing, strengthen intelligence-led operations and engage in confidence-building activities with members of the public.
Specialised police units, including the Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Command, Intelligence Response Team, Special Tactical Squad, Special Intervention Squad, Highway Patrol, Marine Police and the Police Airwing, have been placed on heightened operational readiness throughout the period.
The security deployment will cover churches, mosques, recreational centres, markets, parks, event venues, transport terminals, highways, critical national infrastructure and other high-density public areas. Additional patrol and surveillance teams have also been activated along inter-state routes and major expressways to curb road-related crimes, traffic violations and accidents.
The IGP further directed all police commands to sustain raids on identified blackspots, forests, criminal hideouts and flashpoints, while strengthening collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders to ensure comprehensive security coverage nationwide. Officers on duty have been instructed to remain firm, professional and courteous in the discharge of their responsibilities.
While wishing Nigerians a joyful Christmas and a prosperous New Year, the IGP urged citizens to remain vigilant, celebrate responsibly and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through available emergency lines.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that Nigerians enjoy the Yuletide season and beyond in an atmosphere of peace, safety and security.
