President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Dr Adewale Bashir Adeniyi, on the occasion of his 60th birthday, commending his outstanding contributions to national development and reforms within the Service.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the milestone as a testament to Dr Adeniyi’s years of dedicated service to the nation and his impactful leadership since assuming office as Comptroller-General.
President Tinubu noted that under Dr Adeniyi’s leadership, the Nigerian Customs Service has undergone significant reforms that have repositioned the organisation as a modern, efficient, and globally competitive institution.
The President highlighted the international recognition accorded to the Customs boss, particularly his election as Chairman of the World Customs Organization (WCO) in June 2025, describing it as a proud moment for Nigeria and the African continent.
According to the statement, President Tinubu commended Dr Adeniyi for projecting Nigeria and Africa on the global stage through inclusive and pragmatic leadership at the WCO, as well as for mobilising Customs administrations and key stakeholders to advance the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) via the C-PACT platform.
The President also acknowledged the integration of the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme in Nigeria, with support from the WCO, aimed at improving cargo clearance timelines, enhancing revenue performance, and strengthening partnerships with traders. He further noted the adoption of the WCO SAFE Framework of Standards to secure and facilitate global trade.
President Tinubu affirmed that ongoing internal reforms within the NCS — including automation and digitisation of operations, enhanced training and upskilling of officers, high-level diplomacy, and adherence to global best practices — have yielded measurable improvements in trade facilitation and revenue generation.
He further praised the Comptroller-General’s visionary leadership, which has led to improved community relations, consistent surpassing of revenue targets, stronger trade partnerships with countries and multilateral institutions, and enhanced border security.
As Dr Adeniyi marks his 60th birthday, President Tinubu prayed for continued good health, strength, and wisdom for the Customs boss to sustain his service to the nation.
