The Nigerian Army and the Taraba State Government have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in a renewed push against terrorism and other security challenges.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, made this known on Tuesday while receiving the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Colonel Agbu Kefas (rtd), alongside federal lawmakers and members of the Executive Council of the International Institute for African Security and Governance, during a courtesy visit to the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
Lieutenant General Shaibu reiterated the Nigerian Army’s resolve to support civil authorities in maintaining peace and security, describing Taraba State as strategically important within Nigeria’s security architecture due to its terrain and prevailing security dynamics.
He commended Governor Kefas for his leadership and effective coordination with security agencies, noting that the state government’s support, including the donation of land and provision of operational equipment, has significantly enhanced the effectiveness of military operations in the state.
The Army Chief emphasised that lasting peace can only be achieved through strong civil-military cooperation and appealed for continued partnership. He specifically requested support in providing stable electricity to the 20 Model Battalion in Sarti and the 93 Battalion, stating that improved power supply would enhance operational efficiency, combat readiness and troop welfare.
Lieutenant General Shaibu also called for increased public sensitisation across Taraba State, urging residents to assist security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence, which he described as crucial to defeating terrorists and other criminal elements.
In his response, Governor Kefas described the visit as a demonstration of Taraba State’s unwavering solidarity with the Nigerian Army. He congratulated Lieutenant General Shaibu on his appointment as Chief of Army Staff and praised the professionalism and sacrifices of Army personnel deployed in the state.
The governor noted that sustained military operations have resulted in visible improvements in the security situation and commended the level of inter-agency cooperation among security agencies. He also highlighted areas requiring enhanced military presence and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the Army, including assistance with accommodation for deployed troops.
Both the Nigerian Army and the Taraba State Government reiterated their resolve to maintain a united front in addressing security challenges and sustaining peace in the state.
