
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the immediate deployment of a Special Forces unit under the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion to Plateau State to address the recent resurgence of terrorist attacks.
In a statement issued by the media information officer, Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Capt. Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, said that, the troops, who have already arrived in the state, are expected to conduct aggressive and decisive operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring lasting peace in affected areas.
According to the statement, while receiving the troops at the Headquarters of 3 Division in Jos, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, represented by the Chief of Staff of the operation, Brigadier General Senlong Sule, welcomed the deployment and charged the soldiers to be firm and resolute in executing offensive operations against terrorism.
He commended the Chief of Army Staff for his proactive leadership and for providing critical combat enablers and logistical support necessary for the effective execution of the troops’ mandate.
Major General Oyinlola also appealed to residents of Plateau State to remain calm despite increased military movements and the deployment of heavy equipment, assuring them that the measures were aimed solely at enhancing security.
He thanked the people of the state for their continued support to the military and called for increased cooperation, particularly through the provision of timely and actionable intelligence on the activities and locations of criminal elements to aid ongoing operations and restore peace across the state.
