CDS Urges Troops of Operation Delta Safe to Uphold Professionalism, Integrity

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, has charged troops of the Joint Task Force South South, Operation Delta Safe (JTF SS OPDS), to discharge their responsibilities with the highest level of professionalism and integrity.

Gen. Oluyede gave the charge on Friday during the commissioning of an ultra-modern Non-Commissioned Officers’ accommodation and a remodelled conference hall at the Headquarters of JTF SS OPDS in Igbogene, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Addressing the troops, the CDS cautioned against any form of illegal activity or compromise in the course of their operations, stressing the critical role they play in safeguarding oil infrastructure vital to Nigeria’s economic sustainability.

He reaffirmed his commitment to improving the welfare and working conditions of personnel across the Armed Forces, noting that enhanced welfare packages are currently being proposed to boost morale and operational efficiency.

The defence chief commended the Commander of JTF SS OPDS, Rear Admiral Olugbenga Oladipo, for successfully executing the projects, describing them as value-adding initiatives that align with the military’s strategic objectives.

In his remarks, Rear Admiral Oladipo expressed appreciation to the CDS for attending the commissioning ceremony despite his tight schedule. He explained that the projects were conceived and completed in line with the CDS’ Military Strategic Philosophy, which prioritises troop welfare as a key pillar.

According to him, the newly commissioned Non-Commissioned Officers’ accommodation comprises 24 apartments equipped with 24-hour solar power supply, water facilities, beddings, and cooling systems to ensure the comfort of personnel. He reiterated his commitment to prioritising the welfare of officers and men to sustain high morale and enhance operational effectiveness.

Operation Delta Safe is mandated to protect oil and gas infrastructure, deter militancy, curb sea robbery, and safeguard lives and property in the Niger Delta region.

The event was attended by the General Officer Commanding 6 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Emmanuel Emekah; the Air Officer Commanding Mobility Command, represented by Air Vice Marshal J.J. Ijugigal; the Commander 16 Brigade, Brigadier General Nurulhayat Mohammed; and other senior officers from Defence Headquarters.
