Nigerian Military Neutralises Scores of Terrorists, Rescues Over 50 Victims in Nationwide Operations

The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has recorded significant operational successes across multiple theatres between February 9 and 13, 2026, neutralising scores of terrorists, rescuing kidnapped victims, and recovering large caches of arms and ammunition.

In a statement signed by Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, the military said troops sustained a high operational tempo nationwide in collaboration with other security and intelligence agencies.

According to the Defence Headquarters, troops recovered automatic weapons, Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) tubes, machine guns, improvised explosive device (IED) materials, locally fabricated firearms, and large quantities of live ammunition during the period under review.

North East: Major Blow to Boko Haram, ISWAP

In the North East, troops of Joint Task Force Operation HADIN KAI intensified operations against Boko Haram, ISWAP and JAS terrorists across Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.

Operations were conducted in Bama, Biu, Chibok, Damboa, Guzamala, Jere, Konduga, Mafa and Mobbar Local Government Areas of Borno State; Damaturu in Yobe State; and Gombi and Maiha in Adamawa State.
Several terrorists were neutralised, eight suspects arrested, and 11 kidnapped victims rescued.

In Komala Village, Jere LGA of Borno State, troops successfully repelled an ambush and neutralised dozens of terrorists while recovering motorcycles, bicycles, household items and weapons.
The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, working alongside Nigerian Army Aviation, also carried out precision air strikes in Chongolo Kura (Bama LGA) and Abbagajere Village (Damboa LGA), destroying terrorist enclaves and neutralising fleeing fighters.

North West: Terrorists Neutralised in Zamfara, Kano, Katsina

Troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA conducted offensives in Kaura Namoda, Maradun, Maru and Tsafe LGAs of Zamfara State, as well as Doguwa (Kano State) and Kafur (Katsina State).

During multiple firefights, several terrorists were killed, four arrested, and two kidnapped victims rescued. Security forces also recovered weapons, vehicles and rustled livestock.

North Central: Multiple Arrests, Camp Captured

In the North Central region, operations under SAVANNAH SHIELD, ENDURING PEACE and WHIRL STROKE recorded major successes across Niger, Kwara, Plateau, Kaduna, Benue, Taraba and Kogi states.

Troops dismantled terrorist checkpoints and hideouts in Borgu and Mokwa (Niger State), as well as Baruten, Edu and Ifelodun (Kwara State).

In Plateau and Kaduna states, troops neutralised several terrorists, arrested a wanted kidnap suspect identified as Kamaru Chawai alongside five others, and rescued four victims.

In Benue, Taraba and Kogi states, 11 terrorists were arrested and nine kidnapped victims rescued. Troops also captured Batijjo’s Camp in Kogi State, freeing over 13 kidnapped victims and recovering weapons and ammunition.

South-South: Illegal Refineries Destroyed

In the Niger Delta, troops under Operation DELTA SAFE destroyed nine illegal refining sites and foiled major oil theft operations.

Operations in Ahoada and Etche (Rivers State) and Yenagoa (Bayelsa State) led to the arrest of 11 oil thieves and other suspects. A notorious IPOB/ESN suspect, Eze Adeire (alias Ikuku), and four others were apprehended, while a suspected gunrunner was arrested with locally fabricated rifles.

South East: Terror Suspects Arrested

Under Operation UDO KA, troops conducted cordon-and-search operations across Abia, Anambra, Cross River, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states.
In forested areas of Afikpo North and Afikpo South LGAs of Ebonyi State, eight suspected terrorists were arrested and arms recovered.

Military Reaffirms Commitment
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, commended troops for their professionalism and resilience, reaffirming the military’s commitment to intensifying operations and strengthening inter-agency collaboration.

The Armed Forces assured Nigerians of continued efforts to protect lives and property while sustaining pressure on criminal and terrorist elements nationwide.
