IGP Hosts House Committee on Petroleum Resources to Boost Downstream Security

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has hosted the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, as part of efforts to strengthen security collaboration in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.

The working visit focused on enhancing security measures to protect critical energy infrastructure and ensure stability in a sector considered vital to Nigeria’s economic growth.

Leading the delegation was the Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), Ikeagwuonu Ugochinyere, alongside other members of the committee. Senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force and members of the Police Management Team were also in attendance.

In his remarks, Ugochinyere commended the IGP’s leadership and proactive policing strategies in safeguarding national energy assets. He acknowledged the Police Force’s efforts in stabilising operations during recent industrial tensions, improving inter-agency coordination, and tackling oil theft and pipeline vandalism.

Responding, Egbetokun expressed appreciation for the committee’s support and reaffirmed the Police Force’s commitment to securing petroleum infrastructure across the country.

He pledged to intensify surveillance operations, strengthen intelligence-sharing mechanisms, and deepen collaboration with relevant security and regulatory agencies to ensure uninterrupted supply and boost investor confidence.

The IGP also called on the committee to support the strengthening of the legal framework and provide adequate funding for personnel training, acquisition of advanced surveillance equipment, and improved welfare for officers deployed to protect downstream facilities.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its resolve to protect the nation’s petroleum resources, restore stability in vulnerable communities, and guarantee uninterrupted access to energy nationwide.
