The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has directed the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering (NASME) to sustain rigorous and mission-oriented training to enhance combat effectiveness across theatres of operation.
The Army Chief gave the directive on Wednesday during his maiden operational visit to the Headquarters of NASME in Makurdi, Benue State. He underscored the strategic role of the institution in building the technical expertise and operational proficiency required to address the evolving demands of modern warfare.
According to him, NASME remains a critical pillar in producing the skilled manpower needed to execute engineering tasks across formations and units of the Nigerian Army. He stressed that training programmes must remain realistic, practical and aligned with contemporary operational realities to ensure quality output and improved combat readiness.
Lieutenant General Shaibu reaffirmed his commitment to improving the welfare, accommodation and overall living conditions of personnel within NASME Barracks. He noted that troop welfare is central to operational efficiency, morale and overall mission success.
Earlier, the Commandant of NASME, Major General Idongesit Essien Ekpenyong, expressed appreciation to the COAS for his continued support to the institution. He briefed the Army Chief on ongoing training activities, operational engagements and key challenges affecting infrastructure and personnel welfare within the barracks.
