
The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for equipping the Nigerian Army with modern weapons and critical military equipment to address the country’s growing security challenges.
Governor Alia gave the commendation on Thursday, while receiving the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, during a courtesy visit at the Government House in Makurdi.
Speaking during the visit, Lt. Gen. Shaibu said the Nigerian Army is strengthening its operational capacity to deliver improved security outcomes across Benue State and other parts of the country. According to him, the acquisition of modern weapons and combat enablers, made possible through the support of President Tinubu, will significantly enhance the effectiveness of troops in combating insecurity.
The Army Chief also praised the Benue State Government and residents for their resilience and continued support to security agencies despite ongoing security challenges in parts of the state.
He particularly acknowledged the cooperation extended to troops of Operation Whirl Stroke, noting that the collaboration has contributed positively to the progress of ongoing military operations in the region.
Lt. Gen. Shaibu further urged the state government and residents to maintain close cooperation with the military and other security agencies, emphasizing that strong synergy between the armed forces, government authorities and the local population remains crucial to restoring lasting peace and stability.
Responding, Governor Alia described the visit as timely and reassuring, especially at a period when intensified security efforts are needed.
He commended the Nigerian Army for its commitment to protecting lives and property and welcomed the deployment of additional troops to strengthen ongoing operations in the state.
The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s continued support for the military and other security agencies as they work to curb criminal activities and restore peace across Benue State.
