Troops of the 82 Division Garrison operating under Operation Eastern Sanity have rescued 12 kidnapped victims in Ette Community, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The rescue operation took place on Friday, March 6, 2026, following a distress call reporting the abduction of several residents by suspected kidnappers in the area.
Sources from the military said, troops swiftly mobilized alongside police operatives, forest guards and members of the neighbourhood watch to track down the kidnappers. The joint team advanced to the suspected hideout where the victims were believed to have been taken.
Upon arrival, the security personnel launched aggressive search and fighting patrols across the surrounding forest areas to locate the kidnappers and secure the release of the victims.
The suspected kidnappers reportedly abandoned their captives and fled after being overwhelmed by the rapid response and combat readiness of the troops.
During a follow-up operation in the area, all 12 victims were rescued unharmed. Two suspects believed to be connected to the kidnapping were also arrested and are currently being interrogated to help security agencies track down other members of the gang.
Meanwhile, troops of Operation Eastern Sanity have intensified patrols and surveillance in the area to prevent further criminal activities and ensure the safety of residents.
Security authorities said the successful operation reflects the military’s continued efforts to protect lives and property while restoring confidence in communities across the region.
