CDS, COAS Visit Maiduguri, Order Intensified Offensive Against Terrorists

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Wednesday visited Maiduguri, Borno State, for an operational assessment of troops under Operation HADIN KAI, following recent suicide bomb incidents/ in the city.

The visit, which took place at the Maimalari Cantonment, comes less than 24 hours after explosions rocked parts of the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, raising fresh security concerns in the North-East.

Addressing officers and soldiers, the CDS commended the troops for their resilience and sustained pressure on terrorist groups operating in the region. He urged them to remain steadfast and professional in the discharge of their duties.

Oluyede also directed field commanders to intensify offensive operations, strengthen intelligence gathering, and adopt more proactive strategies to prevent further attacks. He assured troops of continued support from the Defence Headquarters to ensure the complete defeat of terrorism.

In his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Shaibu, praised the troops for their dedication and consistency in confronting insurgents. He charged commanders to maintain momentum in ongoing operations and adopt a “never again” approach to deny terrorists any opportunity to carry out attacks, especially during sensitive periods such as Ramadan.

Shaibu further pledged additional logistical and operational support to enhance the effectiveness of troops and improve force protection across the theatre.

Earlier, the Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI briefed the military leadership on ongoing operations, challenges, and recent achievements. He revealed that more than 200 террорист fighters had been neutralised in recent offensives, with many others injured and unable to return to the battlefield.

Despite recent incidents, he noted that troops remain dominant and committed to sustaining aggressive operations aimed at restoring lasting peace and stability in the North-East.

Operation HADIN KAI is the Nigerian military’s joint task force leading the counter-insurgency campaign against terrorist groups in the region.
