Troops Foil Terror Threats, Secure Ngoshe for Peaceful Eid Celebrations

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have maintained firm control over Ngoshe and surrounding communities in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, ensuring peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebrations despite recent terrorist threats.

According to the Nigerian Army, insurgent groups linked to Boko Haram and ISWAP had circulated false claims of plans to overrun Ngoshe and hold Sallah prayers at the central mosque. The military described the move as propaganda aimed at creating panic and projecting a false sense of strength.

Security sources said troops acted on credible intelligence to reinforce the area following an attempted incursion on March 4. This was followed by intensified clearance operations, supported by aerial surveillance and local intelligence, which disrupted insurgent activities and led to the neutralisation of several fighters.

Authorities confirmed that Ngoshe and the adjoining Gwoza axis remained calm and under full military control throughout the Sallah period, allowing residents to observe prayers and celebrate without disruption.

In a show of confidence, troops led by Brigade Commander, NI Abdullahi, joined worshippers for Eid prayers at the Ngoshe Central Mosque, a gesture seen as reinforcing public assurance of safety.

The Chief of Army Staff also commended residents for their cooperation, noting that community support has been vital to ongoing military successes in the region.

Army spokesperson, Appolonia Anele, urged the public to ignore terrorist propaganda, describing it as a tactic by weakened groups seeking to instill fear and undermine security efforts.

She added that troops would sustain aggressive operations to consolidate gains, eliminate remaining threats, and ensure lasting peace across the North-East.
