The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has emphasized that a unified and coordinated approach among Nigeria’s security agencies remains essential to addressing the country’s evolving security challenges.
He made this known on Wednesday while receiving the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, during his maiden familiarisation visit to the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking during the visit, the IGP stressed the need for stronger collaboration and sustained inter-agency synergy between the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force to effectively combat internal security threats. He commended the long-standing partnership between both institutions, describing it as critical to achieving national security goals.
Disu also expressed appreciation for the Army’s role in capacity development, particularly its training support for Police Mobile Force personnel, which he said has significantly improved operational effectiveness across various theatres. He assured the Army of continued intelligence sharing and operational coordination in joint security efforts.
In his response, the COAS congratulated the IGP on his appointment as the 23rd Inspector General of Police and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to strengthening inter-agency cooperation. He noted that their professional relationship dates back to their joint service in the United Nations Mission in Darfur, highlighting a shared history of collaboration in complex operational environments.
Shaibu also acknowledged the support of the Police in ongoing operations in Kogi, Kwara and Niger states, where security forces have been tackling banditry and kidnapping. He reiterated that sustained collaboration among security agencies is key to achieving lasting peace and stability across the country.
