Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has strongly condemned a recent attack on residents of Mbalom in Gwer East Local Government Area, describing the incident as a “heinous and barbaric act.”

The attack, reportedly carried out by suspected armed herdsmen, has drawn widespread concern amid rising insecurity in parts of the state. In a statement issued on Sunday, the governor expressed deep sympathy to families affected by the violence and assured them of the government’s support during the difficult period.

Alia said the incident represents a direct threat to the peace and security of Benue communities, noting a troubling pattern of what he described as “calculated and selective attacks” across parts of the state.

He vowed that his administration would not allow such acts to persist, stressing his commitment to tackling all forms of criminality. According to him, efforts are ongoing to strengthen the state’s security architecture, improve intelligence
gathering, and enhance collaboration with relevant stakeholders to restore lasting peace.

The governor also commended the Nigeria Police Force for their swift response, noting assurances from security agencies that those responsible are being pursued and will be brought to justice.

He urged security operatives to intensify their operations to prevent further attacks and provide relief to affected communities.

While calling on residents to remain calm and law-abiding, Alia encouraged them to support security agencies by providing credible information that could aid ongoing investigations.

The Benue State Government, he added, remains resolute in its commitment to protecting lives and property and will continue to pursue peace, justice, and security for all citizens.
