ABUJA — Stakeholders in Nigerian squash have called for greater investment in young athletes as Abuja hosts the seventh edition of the Squash Ex-Pros in the Diaspora Tournament.
The tournament, which features boys and girls in the Under-11, Under-13 and Under-17 categories, is being held at the squash courts of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Package B, Abuja.
Speaking during the competition, the Secretary of the Nigerian Squash Players in the Diaspora, Adekunle Adebiyi, urged individuals, corporate organisations and other stakeholders to support young players and help them develop into future champions.
According to him, the strong participation in Abuja demonstrates the growing interest in squash among young people in the northern part of the country. The Under-11 category alone recorded 32 players, the highest registration in the tournament’s history.
Adebiyi also praised the facilities at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, saying Abuja has venues capable of hosting high-quality sporting competitions.
