Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully foiled a coordinated terrorist attack on a military installation in Benisheikh, Borno State, reinforcing ongoing efforts to combat insurgency in Nigeria’s North-East.

According to a statement issued by Defence Headquarters and signed by Major General Michael Onoja, the attack occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, when insurgents attempted to breach the perimeter of the 29 Task Force Brigade Headquarters.

The troops, under the leadership of Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, responded swiftly with what officials described as “exceptional courage and professionalism,” engaging the attackers with superior firepower. The insurgents were ultimately forced to retreat, abandoning their mission after suffering setbacks.

Military authorities said the failed assault reflects the growing desperation of terrorist groups following sustained pressure from Nigerian forces in recent operations across the region.
Despite the successful defence, the military confirmed that some soldiers were killed during the encounter. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, paid tribute to the fallen personnel, describing them as courageous and committed to the defence of the nation. He also extended condolences to their families.

The Armed Forces urged the public and media to refrain from spreading unverified information and to allow proper notification of next of kin before further details about casualties are disclosed.

Meanwhile, clearance operations are ongoing in the area to track down fleeing insurgents and prevent regrouping. The military reiterated its commitment, alongside other security agencies, to restoring peace and stability in the North-East.
