Rivers Elders Procure Nomination Forms for Gov. Fubara, Declare Support for 2027 Re-Election

A delegation of elders and leaders from Rivers State, led by Awaji-Inombek Abiante, member representing Andoni/Opobo-Nkoro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has announced the procurement of expression of interest and nomination forms for Governor Siminalayi Fubara ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election.

Speaking during the presentation, the delegation described the process as routine and consistent with democratic traditions. Abiante noted that the acquisition of nomination forms every election cycle is a standard political practice, emphasizing that “democracy has been here for quite some time, and it is a ritual we observe every four years.”

He dismissed concerns about the process, stating that Governor Fubara’s chances of securing the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State remain strong, adding that the governor continues to enjoy the backing of the people.

Explaining the rationale behind the move, Abiante said the initiative was driven by widespread support from the people of Rivers State rather than personal ambition or financial influence. He referenced a similar precedent during the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, where nomination forms were reportedly procured by party stakeholders.

According to him, the decision reflects the will of the people, stressing that democracy is fundamentally about popular participation. “If the people decide, they will bear the burden of bringing you back to serve them,” he said.
The lawmaker highlighted several achievements of Governor Fubara, particularly in infrastructure development and economic expansion. He cited ongoing work on the Trans-Kalabari Road project, describing it as a long-awaited development that has now become a reality after years of unsuccessful attempts.

Abiante also pointed to improvements in road connectivity in riverine areas such as Andoni, noting that communities previously cut off from accessible roads can now benefit from better infrastructure. He further referenced initiatives aimed at boosting participation in the blue economy, as well as the revitalization of state assets, including the State Secretariat.

On what the governor would bring into a second term, the delegation emphasized continuity and consolidation of existing achievements. They described Fubara as focused, people-oriented, and committed to improving the welfare of citizens.

“He is coming to consolidate on the gains already recorded—be it in infrastructure or the welfare of the people,” Abiante said, portraying the governor as a humble leader who understands the needs of ordinary citizens.

The delegation maintained that the governor did not initiate the move to secure his re-election bid. Instead, they said he was being urged by stakeholders and residents across the state to seek another term in office.

“We are compelling him to run. He cannot turn his back on the people,” Abiante declared, adding that contributions from citizens were pooled together to fund the procurement of the forms.

The group concluded by reiterating that their action represents the collective voice of Rivers people, affirming that Governor Fubara has their full support as preparations begin for the 2027 election cycle.
