COAS Visits North-East, Reaffirms Army’s Commitment to Defeating Security Threats

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s determination to overcome all security challenges facing the country, stressing the importance of continued public support.

General Shaibu made this statement on Friday during an operational visit to Yobe State, where he was received by Governor Mai Mala Buni at the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport. The visit was part of efforts to assess the security situation in the North-East and boost the morale of troops on the frontlines.

During the visit, the COAS acknowledged recent attacks on military formations but maintained that the Army remains resolute and undeterred in executing its constitutional responsibilities. He noted that operational strategies are being reviewed and adjusted to effectively address emerging threats and consolidate gains recorded in various theatres of operation.

Despite the evolving nature of insecurity, General Shaibu emphasized that the Nigerian Army will continue to decisively confront terrorism and other threats across the country. He also called on state governments to strengthen their support for security agencies to enhance operational effectiveness.

The Army Chief commended the government and people of Yobe State for their sustained support, describing it as critical to achieving long-term security and stability in the region.

Meanwhile, at the Headquarters of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI in Damaturu, the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, alongside Senator Ali Ndume, paid a condolence visit to the COAS and troops following the loss of personnel in recent encounters with terrorists. Governor Zulum pledged to introduce additional strategies to support security agencies in tackling evolving threats.

General Shaibu also addressed troops during the visit, urging them to remain courageous and relentless in their operations, in honour of fallen colleagues and in pursuit of lasting peace.

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor of Yobe State, who represented the governor, praised the Nigerian Army for its resilience and significant role in restoring peace to affected areas. He acknowledged the Army’s continued successes despite operational challenges and offered prayers for personnel who lost their lives in service to the nation.

The visit underscores ongoing efforts by military leadership and state authorities to strengthen collaboration in addressing security concerns in Nigeria’s North-East
