Troops Arrest Suspected IPOB/ESN Kingpin Linked to Killing of Policeman in Delta

Troops of Sector 2 under Operation UDO KA have arrested a suspected commander of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network, during a raid in Ebonyi State.

The suspect, popularly known as “Calamity,” was apprehended alongside four others in the early hours of Tuesday in Nwofe, Izzi Local Government Area. The operation was part of the ongoing Operation Eastern Sanity, a military campaign targeting criminal elements across the South-East and surrounding regions.

According to a statement by the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations
82 Division Nigerian Army  Lt. Col. Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni noted that, the arrest followed credible intelligence linking the group to a February 26 attack in Okuku-Igbo, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State. During the incident, a police officer was killed, another injured, and two AK-47 rifles were stolen.

Security officials said the suspects had fled Delta State amid intensified operations and relocated to Ebonyi, where they allegedly set up a new base to continue their activities.

During the raid, troops recovered several items, including a black handbag containing five mobile phones and multiple keys, as well as a motorcycle believed to have been used by the group.

The five suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further investigation as authorities work to dismantle their network and recover additional weapons.

The Nigerian Army said the operation highlights its ongoing commitment, alongside other security agencies, to combat terrorism, restore peace, and ensure the safety of citizens. Residents were also urged to continue providing timely information to support security efforts.
